This meeting was with Amparo, a professor at the university.
Oliver and Amparo are working on a broad based initiative encompassing environmental human and animal issues.
Part of their work is to develop and work toward the implementation of Animal Rights laws.
One of the problems in Cuba is the practice of dog fighting as a form of gambling.
At present, there are no laws outlawing this inhumane practice.
During my trip in January, 2005 I was taken to a space The University of Havana has provided for them. This location will contain a clinic for animal care and a library to provide ongoing education for matters pertaining to animals.
